Midnight

I walked into a dream
or so maybe I thought it was.
Giraffes were floating in mid-air,
dancing amongst dying sunflower petals.
The ceiling jumped to the walls,
the floor hopped towards the ocean sky.
Extraordinary too were the ants,
breaking lines in candied smiles.
Swimming in straight circles,
zebras painted the clouds with shades of red.
Stumbling into a meadow,
pink elephants held my hands.
Ladybugs combed my bottled hair,
undoing the knots and cracks.
Galloping under the crescent night sun,
light beamed down, filled the crevices in my skin.
I died. I woke.
