Last night, the boyfriend and I met up at Megamall for our normal Friday night dates. We were torn between three movies last night (Tangled, Burlesque and Season of the Witch) and we couldn’t decide which one to watch. None of us wanted to speak up on what we really wanted to watch. A little bickering was involved so we just ended up having dinner instead. We decided to go to Holy Cow Steak Ranch & American Grill, a casual dining restaurant we’ve been to before.
I wasn’t too eager to eat a full-on dinner that night so I ordered a simple Cobb Caesar Salad (Php195) and a rootbeer float (Php85). The salad is actually good enough for two people although the menu says it’s for one person.
While I like the generous serving and the fresh greens, it was too salty. I’m guessing they sprinkled far too many parmesan cheese or the seasoning of the dressing itself was way off. The size of the chicken strips were pretty big though, which I like. But one of the chicken strips was still a little raw, with blood oozing on one side. Yeah, I know how disgusting it is to see blood on the meat after eating everything but one!
The boyfriend had Ranch Steak and Fish (Php495) cooked medium well and bottomless soda (Php70). For a guy his size, this meal is already pretty big. In fact, he gave me half of his boneless fish fillet–and that’s new! For it’s price, the steak was thick and juicy. Plus, it arrived sizzling hot (as always)!
Although this is below the steak “standard”, it’s a passable slab of meat. The dish came with gravy for the steak and salsa for the fillet. The boyfriend liked the salsa basically because it had a minor spiciness to it. He loves anything spicy.
Since I was an “Elite Rewards” card holder, the boyfriend’s order came with a free New York cheesecake (Php120). Hurrah for free cheesecake! What I loved about the cheesecake was the cake itself. Although they obviously refrigerated the cheesecake AND the plate while we haven’t asked for dessert yet, it was my kind of cheesecake–sweet but not over-the-top sweet. I couldn’t see any blueberries there (boo!). Hello, blueberry jam! Haha. But I liked this dessert anyway. It was surprisingly delectable, coming from a restaurant such as Holy Cow. I could have eaten two more slices of that cake.
While I won’t recommend their salad, I’d say their range of mouth-watering steak and ribs dishes are worth a try. They’re affordable plus the service is great (in Megamall, anyway). But if you’re a true-blue steak aficionado, you can skip this place and go elsewhere.
