I’ve always been interested in what makes firing or shooting guns particularly enticing for the few aficionados that I know. Is it the sheer “angas” of the activity or its potential to become quite a useful skill (what if you need to shoot a mugger or a rapist?!) in the future?
Ever the curious girl that I am, I went firing with friends over the weekend. I was the only novice among the group, since most of them have either tried it once or are really frequent gun-toting vixens on weekends.
We went to Jethro Shooting Range in Festival Mall. I was actually pleasantly surprised to find a shooting range inside a mall. I know of indoor shooting ranges of course, but not one that’s in a mall. 😀
Gun aficionados can sign up for membership (with lots of perks and discounts) at Jethro. But here’s a snap of the rate sheet displayed on the counter for your information:
They have a separate fee for foreigners, which mildly baffles me. Can somebody explain to me why is that so? LOL
While we were waiting to be let in, we could hear the bang of the people shooting inside. It was a bit unnerving since it was my first time to be anywhere near a firing range–I’ve sat on a gun before, you see. (Yup, don’t ask how I ended up sitting on a gun).
I don’t think anyone looks really good with glasses/goggles like these, no? It always squishes your cheeks! Ugh.
Make sure you read the rules of gun safety before you walk in. 😀
Two dudes were shooting when we walked in and there was only one range officer so we had to wait for them to finish. Girl on the upper right photo is with us, by the way. She’s the “expert” in the group for she frequents this place a lot.
Before I stepped up and held the gun, I wasn’t feeling nervous at all. I was actually more excited than petrified, and of course, I wanted to hit the target at least once! But typical of beginners, I hit the target paper every single time. I swear! I counted the bullet holes.
I didn’t really think that the gun–or rather the muzzle part–would “spark” whenever one would pull the trigger. I thought it was just some movie effect, but obviously, it wasn’t. Also, the gun was really heavy. My hand would recoil every time I would shoot the gun, but I kept my grip on the gun tight and secured.
My first time at shooting guns was definitely fun, which is why I’ll be forcing the boyfriend to try this with me again. Jethro Shooting Range in Festival is a bit dingy and old, but it’s okay since we don’t plan on becoming shooting experts. Besides, we’re here to shoot and not to enjoy the ambiance. 😀
P.S. If you’re a Facebook friend, then you can see a video of my shooting. LOL. As if you wanna watch no? Hahaha.
